Population
Population and Migration Patterns and Processes
1. Intent Of Population Policies
Sweden is a pro-natalist because their fertility rate is decreasing at a fast rate. Sweden does not have a policy at the moment for child birth. Sweden does promote women in the work force, they believe that gender equality is very important. Although, they still want people to pursue a family and to raise the fertility rates, but there are more women in the workforce. So, they will have a smaller fertility rate.
2. Intent Of Immigration Policies
Sweden's population has a lot of immigrants in it. Sweden is part of the 30 most migrated, or immigrated, places in the world. So, to help the immigration rate, they put a policy in place. This was to just help control the amount of immigration into Sweden. They are welcoming and restrictive in their policy.
3. Effects Of Population Policies
Since, Sweden does not have a population policy in place right now there are no effects from the policy. There are effects because there is not one though. Sweden is trying to encourage more and more women to join the work force. Even, though they have a low fertility rate, they still encourage this. As a result, the birth and fertility rate will rapidly decrease. Then, the population pyramid will become unhealthy and you can see the effects of this.
4. Effects Of Immigration Policies
Some effects to this immigration policy is that the policy is taking more of a restrictionist direction. Sweden is still welcoming immigrants, but the immigration population is still growing fast. So, in return the emigration population is also increasing along side with the immigration population. So, as more and more immigrants come, the policy will become more and more strict.
5. Ways To Promote and Discourage
There are ways that Sweden promotes child birth, Sweden has made all daycare services free to the public. Also, jobs will have better healthcare, child taxes have gone done, and etc. Sweden is trying to promote child birth as much as they can, while still supporting women in the work force. A way that Sweden has discouraged immigration growth, is they put a policy in place, and have made the policy more strict after they made it.
Effects of Migration
Economic Effects of Migration
1. History
In the 1850's to 1939 there was a great emigration in Sweden. The people of Sweden were ready to leave during these years due to starvation, gold fever, poverty, religious persecution, and political constraints. Most of the Swedes did not believe in the future of Sweden, so they emigrated to the United States of America. Over 1.5 million native Swedes left during this emigration, this made the population very small compared to today. During this emigration there was also a famine, which also gave people a reason to leave.
2. Current Events
This pandemic has not really affected Sweden in drastic ways. Sweden was one of the few countries to not quarantine, and call stay at home orders. This has made Sweden thrive compared to the rest of the world. They have only had about 6,000 deaths, and the cases have declined a lot throughout the past months. The biggest affects of this pandemic is that Sweden's immigrants have taken a toll. With no one going anywhere during this time, the economic side of things is big. When no new people, or immigrants, are coming in, the less Sweden will profit off of flights, taxes, and other things like that.
